Golf In Sudan By kickntrue on 5/6/10
A lot of people dream of playing Augusta National. My new dream is to play a round of golf in Sudan. Now that they have a course- it could be a reality.
Amongst the slums, the sand and the incessant heat, it is an unexpected vision of paradise: lush, copiously watered greens peppered with pristinely kept bunkers and a freshly built clubhouse.I realize a lot of people who never wish to venture to a war-torn 3rd world culture to play golf, but don't count me as one of them. If I could afford the ticket- I'd do it in a heartbeat! The course is not without controversy and I'm not sure which side I'm on. While the golf aspect makes it neat (and relevant here) it is pretty hard to reconcile the fact that a few rich people built a lush oasis in a place where people all around them are in dire need of assistance. You could say that about any place but living in the USA makes it a little easier to ignore. You should click through to the article to see a few of the pictures of the course!
