Brandt Snedeker wins Tour Championship, FedExCup, and $11.4 million By mustang6560 on 9/24/12
Brandt Snedeker won the Tour Championship Sunday to win the FedExCup and $11.4 million.
"I think it solidifies what I already know," Snedeker said. "I think when I play my best golf, my best golf is some of the best in the world. I've never had more confidence in myself than I have the last five weeks, and I made sure that I kept telling myself that all day. I am one of the best players in the world. This is supposed to happen. It's OK to feel nervous, and no matter what I feel today, everybody else in the field feels exactly the same way I do.The former Vanderbilt standout was fifth in the FedExCup Points heading into East Lake, so mathematically he was in a good position to win. However, Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, and Phil Mickelson were ahead of him in the standings, so no one really expected him to win (I didn't think Brandt was going to win until he chipped in on the 71st hole). Despite winning two playoff events (Deutsche Bank and BMW), current world number one Rory finished second in the FedExCup. "I'm a little disappointed, but at the same time, Brandt really deserves to win," McIlroy said. "He played the best golf out of anyone. He knew what he needed to do. He needed to come in here and win. He controlled his own destiny, just like I did. And he was able to come and do that. So because of that, he really deserves it."The focus immediately turns to the Ryder Cup and Medinah Country Club, which is the last important golf tournament of 2012. As one of four captain's picks, it'll be interesting to see if Brandt can use the momentum of winning the Tour Championship and FedExCup to help him in the Ryder Cup. I hope he's not emotionally and physically drained from last weekend and plays well in his Ryder Cup debut. read more Read an interesting golf article? Tip your editor!
