![]() On Friday, we noted that Rory McIlroy was close behind Adam Scott after two rounds of the Australian Open at Royal Sydney Golf Club. This writer had a feeling that Rory really had a shot at winning this thing. The Holywood Matinee Idol came through in dramatic style, sinking the hometown crowd's hopes to see native son Adam Scott pull off the Aussie Triple Crown. McIlroy sank a twelve-foot birdie at the 72nd hole to card a 66 and defeat Scott by one stroke. It is the Northern Irishman's first tournament victory in 2013. McIlroy avoided bogey, posted an eagle at 7 and four birdies, hit 13 of 18 GIR, and took 27 putts to seal the deal. The 24-year-old McIlroy was quite magnanimous to the gathered audience during the trophy presentation: "I'm sorry that I had to ruin Adam's triple crown. He's had a phenomenal year. It's a real credit to him that he came down and played all four weeks.
