Ted Bishop Wants "Grandfather Period" For Anchoring Ban By mustang6560 on 1/13/14
According to Ryan Lavner, Ted Bishop wants the USGA to implement a "grandfather period", which will allow recreational amateur golfers to anchor after Rule 14-1b is enacted in 2016.
"This is in no way intended to reignite the debate on anchoring because we accept the USGA decision to invoke Rule 14-1b in 2016," he said in a statement. "We just want to ask the USGA to consider a grandfather period to give amateurs a longer period to make the appropriate transition."The PGA of America President plans to make the pitch at the USGA Annual Meeting next month. I expect (and hope) the USGA to listen to the idea, as the USGA grandfathered in the new groove rule for amateurs. But the groove rule wasn't as controversial as anchoring so don't hold your breath just yet. h/t Golf Talk Central Read an interesting golf article? Tip your editor!
