2013 Masters champion Adam Scott has been auditioning caddies to take the place of the recently-retired Steve Williams. In so doing, he is putting the prospective loopers through a baptism of fire.

This week, Scott has Zimbabwe-born Mike Kerr on the bag as Scott plays the biggest event in his native Australia, as well as the biggest event on the Australasian Tour:

The Australian Open.

Scott last won his home country's national championship in 2009, but last year, he bogeyed the closing hole while Rory McIlroy birdied. McIlroy's victory undoubtedly still nags at him, although he was magnanimous in defeat.

For his part, Kerr is a veteran caddie on the European Tour, having looped for Ernie Els, Lee Westwood, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, Trevor Immelman, and Álvaro Quirós. Kerr actually replaced Billy Foster as Westwood's "permanent" caddie following Foster's knee injury two years ago, only to be replaced by Foster himself one year later.

After playing well in amateur golf in South Africa, Kerr served as teaching professional at the prestigious Durban Country Club. But shortly thereafter, Kerr decided to hit the road as a caddie.

Among the other serious candidates for the job has been Eddie Gardino, who caddied for Ángel Cabrera when "El Pato" won the 2007 U.S. Open at Oakmont. Scott also had Cameron Tringale's looper David Clark on the bag in September for the HSBC Champions, where Scott finished T-12.

When word got out that Scott would be auditioning caddies, one "applicant" was a guy whose primary gig was caring for his elderly mother in Florida.
