This is not your average municipal course; Highland National reopened in 2005 after a complete reconstruction overseen by architect Garrett Gill, including a First Tee program and an all-new practice facility. The design could be considered a cross between parkland and heathland styles.

HNGC's signature hole is 15, which features the famous 'Snoopy' bunker, suggested by former head professional Bob Cotie and built with permission of the widow of Charles Schulz, the 'Peanuts' cartoonist who grew up playing and caddying on the original Highland course. Highland National is one of four courses owned and operated by the City of Saint Paul.
