Shennecossett Golf Course

Shennecossett Golf Course is a rarity — a Donald Ross design that is open for public play. While the course debuted with four holes in 1898, Ross oversaw a redesign in 1916. "Shenny" offers views of the Thames River and Long Island Sound looking from the 16th and 17th holes, and at any time, one might see the U.S.S. Eagle or a nuclear submarine navigating the waterways.

Shenny has always been a good track. The view from the 17th tee may be one of the best in the state. The folks in the pro shop don't seem to care if you are there or not.

Nice course with reasonable challenging holes. However, my playing partners and I did not like the design of the course - several tee boxes very close the prior hole's green. Errand approach shots could land near you. Also, too many tee boxes were in the line of sight as you approached greens.

5 1/2 - 6 hour rounds are the standard. It takes away from some of the nice features about this course. By the time you are finished, you are so mad that the last 4 holes (which are beautiful) are over-shadowed by the length of time waiting to hit every shot. The "rangers" do absolutely nothing to increase pace of play.

holes on the water are as beautiful as you'll see anywhere. Very challenging nice course, in good shape, great value
