Condition of course is excellent. Sunny with a steady 20 mph wind. Not good for me the way I'm hitting the ball now. Can't get off the tee with any authority. Weak fades have been horrible for the last two weeks. That said, I did keep it in the fairway pretty well but I missed so many greens with short irons today it was absolutely pathetic. How many hosel rockets did I hit? I shortsided myself almost every hole. And from some damn decent lies. Sure glad DougE wasn't there to see it. I wish I wasn't there to see it.
Worst ball striking round in the last two years by far.
DougEly says:I feel for you. I have been in the shoes you wore today, too many times. Weak fades were common drives for me during a few periods over the past few years. I find I just need to swing through (not at) the ball and I can usually get much lower spin, resulting in much straighter drives. Easy to say, not always easy to do on a day you are struggling. I'm sure the 20 mph wind didn't help your mindset either. Sure, "swing easy when it's breezy" sounds good on paper, but try to get your subconscious mind to believe it as you start your downswing.
Again, sorry I missed you today. I wish I were there. At least it was sunny and 60 there, with near-perfect fairways, rough and greens. It was windy here, 46-50*, dark, gloomy and drizzling, with cart path only after heavy rain yesterday and this morning. I was having trouble reaching par 4s in 2 with GOOD ballstriking. So, if you were gonna have a bad ballstriking day in 20 mph winds, the deck was already stacked against you before you teed off. Forget it. Move on.
