Cold and raw. 43 degrees. Used the cart cover.
Took a bit to get into it, but started playing golf after around the 4th hole. Though I made no really poor shots, the ball was really dead out there. Between the temps, heavy air, soft fairways, and a bit of wind, and generally unappealing conditions, it seemed the ball went nowhere. I had many drives which I hit well, but was surprised to find them lying much shorter than anticipated.
All irons and woods seemed to play at least one full club shorter than I was initially ready to accept. Once I started playing more club, things went better. In actuality, it felt like I was cheating playing the white tees. However, with my driver going so short due to the conditions, I guess it was the best place to play from.
I hit a lot more greens from the whites, and those I missed were mostly due to coming up short with my shorter irons, because I could not imagine needing anything more inside that range. On one occasion, I had 100 yards in to a mid-back pin. Pulled out a 46* P wedge. Hit it well and yet barely made the green. Couldn't believe that it only went that far. I dropped another ball and tried the same shot. Hit that one even better and still came up 10 yards short, in the front bunker. Shaking my head and wondering what the hell was going on, I pulled a 42* 9 iron, my regular 120-130 yrd club. Hit IT well too. Landed a few feet short of pin. Could not believe I needed a 120+ yard club to go 100 yards. Then I pulled out my rangefinder and shot the pin. Damn! 115 yards. No wonder. That's what I get for paying attention to the cart GPS. Now that made sense in this cold. Bottom line, all irons were going about 10-15 yards shorter than normal.
Took 3 Advil before the round and elbow hung in there.
3rd round of the new year.
