A little rain to start, but it stopped a four or five holes into the round. By then, though, I was quite wet and uncomfortable. Temp was around 50.
Getting tired of the mud and generally bad lies all over the course. Yet, as bad as the greens are, I putted quite well. Lot's of great chips for up & downs too. GIRs were a bit light due to the extra distances needed as a consequence of the overly saturated course. Great drives carried 210-220 yards and then just stopped right where they landed. Made for some fairly long approach shots.
Some highs and lows:
1. Great drive to center fairway, 7 iron (normally 9i from that point) to 15'. GIR Par.
2. Hooked left of left fw bunker. Penalty. Drop in tough position. came up short of green, but chipped it close to save bogey.
3. Excellent, center-fairway drive, carried 20 yards past right fw bunker (and immediately stopped). Decided I could reach with a 3H. Overswung and hit the fattest hybrid off the softest/muddiest turf....about 70 yards for an unintended lay up. It didn't even reach the hazard area I was trying to clear. Then hooked a 9i to the left side of the difficult green (with the pin on the right side of the green), which rolled 2 feet off. Chip and 2-putt for double.
4. Came up 10 yards left of green with hybrid approach, leaving me a downhill lie on the back of a mogul, to a short sided pin. Flopped a 58* to 4 feet to save par.
5, 6 & 7. GIR/par, GIR/par, GIR/par
8. Snap-hooked a 4H into low-front bunker. 54* out and into front bunker. 54* out of that one to 6 feet. 1-putt bogey save.
9. GIR/par
10. Missed green right. Flopped close from near pond. 1-putt par save.
11. Poor approach from crap lie. Missed easy green. Tricky chip to 10 feet. One of the worst chips I've made recently. Bogey as a result.
12. Awesome pitch from mogul rightside of green. Landed it exactly on my target spot. Ball released, as planned and rolled down slope to 2 inches from cup. Nearly holed it. Another par save.
13. Started with a great uphill drive which drew a touch more than I wanted, carrying all the way into left fairway bunker. Made a great shot out with 4H, but still had a 9i in. Just didn't hit it well and it came up short right of green in a position that required a bit of a flop to get it to the short-sided pin. Came up short of green with the flop. Then made a nice little mini-flop to a foot to save bogey.
14. Another great chip from downhill lie, but rolled 6 feet past. Made a nice come-backer to save par.
15. 7 iron to 10 feet. GIR
16. Nothing special here, one way or the other. Bogey.
17. ANOTHER great chipitch with 58* from a downhill lie and another great 6' putt to save par. Short game is really on.
18. Great drive, great 3W 2nd shot, great 48* to 8'. Missed birdie putt badly. Choked. Came up a FOOT SHORT!
