Though I have been playing nearly everyday this winter, I haven't been entering many scores since it's out of season and I play a lot of different shots when playing solo. However, when I actually keep score, play only one ball, and play well, it's worth it to spend the time entering stats, even if it doesn't count towards anything. Today is one of those days....surprisingly.
Much colder than I expected out there. And damp. Greens were coated in moisture. Only one player was out before me and I could see every putt he'd made, on every hole, even an hour or so after he was out there. His ball path on every green was clearly visible. It actually helped me a few times with the break.
Hit the ball well, as has been the case most of the winter. Driver distance should be great once Spring shows up. Have had little problem playing from the blues at all, distance wise. Even in the cold damp air, driver and iron distances have been very respectable. I expect another 10 yards come Spring with irons. 20+ with driver. That's all assuming something in my swing doesn't fall apart. Been very consistent overall during the winter, so, quite hopeful. Been averaging close to 230 yds most of the winter off the tee. Had a 275 yard drive on 2nd and a 270-yarder on 9th yesterday and a 265-yarder on 14th today in the wet conditions. Really feel good with driver in hand.
Irons were pretty much on all day. And I am loving the new 818H2 4 hybrid, which I have been playing between 180 and 195 yards with ease. Yet, today, I had a 178 yard uphill shot off the tee on 8th to a back pin and didn't think I could get there with my 5i due to the cold and dampness. So hit an easy 4H and bingo. Pin high. On 5th, drive left me in deep crap, but hit the 4H out of it easily, 190. Out of deep crap! Amazing club. Still have to learn not to hook it from certain lies, but otherwise, I am infatuated with it. My poor 4 iron has been benched since the new hybrid went in the bag, through no fault of its own. Love that 4 iron, but no room for both right now. If I keep hitting this 4 hybrid so well, I may sit the 818H1 3H for awhile so I can play my 4 iron too.
My new SM8 wedges can't get here fast enough. The SM7s are so worn I can no longer count on them to check up quickly enough on chipitches. Ordered new the SM8s yesterday. Scheduled for delivery late next week. Woo hoo!
