Wiiiinndy! Gusting over 30. That being said, not all that disappointed with score, considering. It was rough out there.
Funny how it's a 3-club wind in one direction, but only about one club extra going downwind. It ain't fair, I say.
Had lots of trouble gauging the wind's effect on the ball before each shot. Consequently, came up short more often than I should have on many approach shots, but even some short pitches. The wind even affected many putts, though I still putted fairly well.
On par 3 6th over the water, with the wind diagonally across and hurting, I hit 4i off the tee to a 170y pin, but went 15 yards past to the back fringe. Struck it well, but in 25 mph wind, never expected to get that much distance. In summer, with no wind, I can hit that club 190-195. I expected 170-175 today.
On par 3 15th, with the wind from behind and 155 to the front hole location, I was chomping at the bit with an 8 iron in hand. Wind was howling. As I started my downswing, THE WIND BLEW THE BALL OFF THE TEE! Trying to adjust at the last millisecond before contact, I missed it badly and chunked it about 75 yards into the tall fescue grass between the tee and the green. Pissed, and not sure I'd find the first one, I re-teed and hit my provisional perfectly. One bounce and HIT THE PIN, ricocheting 4 feet right! But, I found my first ball in the deep stuff and hit a nice little 58*, 70 yard pitch to 10 feet, then made the putt to save par. (Of course I also made the four-footer with the provisional for what would have been a bird if it were the ball that counted. I carded the 3, not the 2.)
Again, got up and down a lot today, particularly on the back. Already addicted to the new SM8s. The 58* has been MONEY for me around the greens, but the 54* has been chipping in nicely (pun intended) too, from various lies. Dialing in the 48* as well, but it's been used only for full shots so far. The perfect 105 yard club for me. (Maybe 110 in warmth.)
Don't think I'm playing tomorrow. Yard work. Need the day off anyway after 6 days in a row. 11 of 13 days in March, so far. Technically, still winter. Posting season starts Sunday.
