Another freakin' 81. Sigh.
Played well to start off. Course was playing very long due to the heavy rain yesterday. It was cart path only.
Weird issue on 4th. Hit a really good drive. Long. Just left of center fairway. Watched the ball until it landed, but did not see a bounce. Figured it stayed right where it landed due to the soft ground. Walked out on the fairway where I expected it to be, but it was nowhere to be found. I SAW IT LAND and did not see a bounce of any kind. I looked all over that fairway for more than the allotted 3 minutes and into the rough everywhere in the vicinity as well. On top of that it was a high-optic yellow AVX, brand new. It just disappeared. I can only assume it plugged deep into the soft ground somewhere, though I checked every pitchmark in the vicinity. Nada. I dropped a ball and took no penalty since I get free relief from a plugged ball. I suppose technically, it's a lost ball, no way. Nada. Not today. That drive was perfect.
Another weird happening on par 3 6th. Playing 175 yds. Pushed a 5i way right. Cleared the water by 30 yrds, hit the cart path, bounced into the only tree around, ricocheting back....and into the pond. I lost track of it after it hit the tree, but was completely surprised to see a splash along the edge of the pond a few seconds after it hit the tree. At first I thought the splash must have been from a ball hit off the 5th tee. To my dismay, no one came over the ridge from the 5th to claim it and I could not find mine, so I'm virtually certain, mine is the one that made the small splash. Result, double.
Got up and down again with a great bunker shot on 7th to 3 feet. Then again from bunker on 13th to 4 1/2 feet. So two more bunker saves today, plus on 14th nearly made my third. Hit it out of bunker to about 8 feet but missed the putt. Bunker play has been solid.
Big trouble on 9th ruined my chance at a good round. Hit a crap drive way right. Then 3W from bad lie into deep stuff left side of the cart path. Penalty drop. Hit hybrid catching tree top just before hazard. Fell out of tree into hazard. Penalty drop. Up and down from 60 yards for double bogey, 7.
Driver was okay. Had some good ones, had some not so good ones. Decent play overall.
