70's, a 10 mph breeze (a club). Partly sunny.
It rained a lot last evening. The course was saturated. Rough was very long and dense. Greens were firm and very quick, plus they placed the hole locations in very difficult locations. On hole #2 I was in the middle of the green, hole high and 15 feet away. I barely tapped my lag putt that slowly rolled by the hole and proceeded to roll 15 feet away (made the come back, amazingly). Had a number of birdie opportunities that I could not get in the hole. Sigh.
Frankly, I just was a bit off today and for every little error I had to pay big time. The guy that sets up this course seems to like putting the holes in really tough spots. A great putter probably can handle it. Me, I failed miserably.
p.s. Some small redemption, I finished 2nd Gross in the Super Senior flight. Won $140 clubhouse gift certificate. My total cost of the tournament was $137 so I essentially broke even. My 2nd finish tells me others had trouble with the green and dense rough, too. Only two guys shot in the 70's on Day 2.
