First actual scoring nine (as opposed to practice nine) played in a while. Been so hard to find room on the course lately. Can't wait for the Covid crowd to dry up for winter so I can get my course back.
After playing Quail Valley on Thursday with Bernie and Mark, where we quit after 5 holes after we realized how packed it was. When we pulled up behind THREE foursomes all waiting on the par 4 6th, we just lost it. Bernie had na meltdown and we all gave up. We weren't having fun. At least they gave us a rain check. But I digress.
Was happy to see I still had a little ability after playing so little real, scoring golf of late. Unfortunately, wasn't able to get out today until 3:30 due to another overcrowded tee sheet. And with dark now around 5PM I was lucky to get in nine. Maybe try for another nine tomorrow? We'll see.
Generally, swing was okay. Hit a few real good drives, made some nice approaches and got up and down from a bunker (on the first) with a chip in par. Ballstriking was good overall, but not perfect. Felt like I missed the sweetspot on more than just a couple.
Once I realized I did not have my A-swing, I started playing an extra club and it actually paid off on a couple shots when I was a touch off the sweetspot. On the par 3 8th, with the pin up front and the strong backstop slope behind it, I hit 6i instead of the 7i I would normally hit from that length. I concluded if I went long, the backstop would bring the ball back to the pin, but if I didn't get it flush, the extra club would help. Caught it a bit toey and it flew only to pin high, 8 feet away. Made the putt for bird. If I'd hit 7i there, it would not have reached the green with that same swing.
This was the first round (albeit only nine holes) I have kept score since the 18 at Penn National two weeks ago.
