52 and mostly sunny. First time playing Bretton Woods. It's private, but Mark won two passes at an outing earlier in the year and he treated. We were able to play as a twosome, and each of us had our own cart. They were very Covid aware. Even had to wear a mask on the range, the practice area and off the first tee. Technically we were supposed to wear it on the course too. I tried, but it bothered me on some shots. It was around my neck the whole round, though. So I pulled it up whenever we were around people, which wasn't much at all.
The course played quite long from the white tees. Nearly 6500, but it felt like more in the cool temps. Didn't get much roll either. The fairways were all dormant. A light wheat color, clearly defined alongside the green rough. Had no problem with hitting ff the dormant fairways. Greens rolled quite true. I feel like I left many shots out there and now, if I ever get a chance to play this track again, I think I can do a bit better. Especially if I play it in season. All in all, it was a good day.
My swing was a touch off. Timing or something. Was hitting it well on the range and expected a lot more when I got out there. Playing from the whites I should not have needed so many long irons or my hybrid as often as I did. The par 3s were all pretty long, as were the par 5s. Come to think of it, so were the par 4s. There were nine par 4s. Six of them were all 400 yards, more or less. One was 425, another 377 and the shortest par 4 on the course played about 350 today, as the tees were set in the blue tee position. So, it was no walk in the park, for sure. Other than the distance, the course is fairly friendly. Not a lot of uneven lies, like I am used to. Putts stayed fairly straight. Bunkers were good from what I saw, but was only in one. Mark had trouble with them but that's not unusual.
