Road trip with Mark. Nice day. 80s. Never played here before and had a few fuck ups as a result. Could have been a really good day if I had some idea where I was going out there.
On the par 4 5th, I did not think there was any way I could reach the end of the fairway before it dropped off into hazard. Hit what I thought was a great drive straight down the fairway. When it landed, I watched it roll over a ridge and out of site. When I got to where I expected it to be, I realized I hit it too far and it disappeared deep into the hazard, costing me a penalty and an eventual double. Should have had an easy approach from 120 yards out if I didn't reach hazard. Won't make that mistake if there is a next time there.
On par 5 15th, didn't have any idea of what to expect after hitting my drive. There was a huge ravine that had to be cleared on the second shot, which required about a 190 yard shot, or a short layup to before the ravine, then leaving 210 to the pin. I chose to layup with a wedge. Hit it through the fairway almost into the ravine, but safe. However in thick rough. With a better lie I could reach the green with 3W. I decided to try anyway. Did not get enough clubhead deep enough into the rough and put it right into the ravine. Penalty, drop (with better lie) and this time 3W to just short of green. Then up and down for another double with a penalty.
Overall hit the ball well. Liked Whitetail. Seems like a little course knowledge would have saved me 4 or 5 strokes.
CeeBee says:I’ve played that track several times. Pretty cool. Look at your putt totals. They don’t seem correct on several holes.
