Played with Bernie and Mark. Started on back nine today, due to league schedule. Started with birdie and played well the rest of the back nine, even though driver wasn't as crisp as it's been lately. Still, they played whites and I played blues, yet was out there as far, or farther than they were on most holes. So, my distance wasn't short. Just not 100% of expectation on many drives.
On 14th, with blue tees all the way back on BLACK teeing ground, I was just left of and past the left fwy bunker, in the rough, with only 90 yards to a back pin. So, about a 260-270 yarder with little roll (it was cart path only after heavy rain yesterday) through the rough. Admittedly, longest drive of the day and only one of a few that felt like I got all of it, in sync.
17 and 18 ended in bogeys, both of which I played decently, but just didn't sink putts I could have easily made if I had just hit them a tiny bit harder. Each ended up two inches short, in the throat. Feel like should have been no more than two-over on back.
Couple weak drives got me off to a slow start on front, but played okay for the most part.
Nice 4i 188 yards on par 3, 6th to pin high, 10 feet from hole. (Loving that U510 4i, even with the present shaft. New GD AD UT shaft arrives tomorrow and should get me 5-10 more yards from it, especially if I trim it to a 3i length. We shall see.
On 7th, made par from the left fairway bunkers with 7i out and on, pin high, for GIR.
Was a little more focused playing with these guys today than I have been. Putting was good, short game good, too.
Even being focused on my game so much, I gave Bernie a putting tip after noticing a little glitch in his stroke, causing pulls. It paid off for him immediately. He sunk 5 or 6 putts with no pulls after the tip and thanked me at least 5 times the rest of the way. I told him it will cost him $85! He says it's worth it!
Mark needs help. No fixing him with a simple tip. He needs a series of lessons.
