Perfect weather, 70, sunny, no wind.
Course was dry but soft so it played long. Greens quick and they had the holes located in some tough places. Rough was manageable.
Round seemed slow as we were a 2-some among a sea of foursomes. I played with my golf buddy Pat. He hasn't much of a game left because he has a myriad of health issues.
A strange thing happened near the end of the round. I think he measures his game against mine and secretly keeps a "match play" score versus me. We used to play a $2/$2/$2 Nassau until I beat him so regularly that he wouldn't do it anymore.
Today was no different. He was taking liberal gimmee's and I putted everything out. He was playing a bit better and I was not scoring well. Despite all that, I would have been beating him like a drum if we had a game on. On the last couple holes, as I was teeing off, he would move close to me on the tee and move during my swing. The first time he did it, he startled me when he moved so close to me and I hit a terrible tee shot. The next time, he was not as close and while I was distracted I managed to hit a decent drive. Finally on the last hole, he again moved into my peripheral vision area and moved as I swung. Worst tee shot of the day and it hit the cart path and was lost in the heather.
I had assumed I could find the ball so I used the, "move to the fairway, 2 stroke penalty" Local Rule. It was a par 5 and I 1-putted for a "6". Pat asked me what I had on the last hole. I knew he wanted me to say something like 5 or 6 so he could mentally say, "Oh yeah, right ... lost ball and you saved bogey." So I asked him what the handicap was for the hole. He said "9". So I told him, "Net Double Bogey so that is an 8". I did not want him to have the petty pleasure of thinking I was fudging my score. I still kicked his butt
