Played with Mark and Bernie. They played whites, I played blue, as is typical. Pretty slow pace out there. Bernie got pissed and left after the 14th. Really brought my attitude down listening to him whine to that point. It was a friday with perfect weather. What do you expect?
Did not play poorly, though score might suggest otherwise. Certainly missed a few shot, but they weren't terrible. Sand wedge approach after layup on third came up a yard or two short and rolled back down the hill. I was not able to get up and down, resulting in a double.
Hit what seemed to be a perfect 4i from 180, uphill, (playing 190) on the par three 8th to center of green, but it rolled all the way back down the slope to the front level. Another yard longer it would have rolled left and down the left slope right to the pin, Instead, a 3-putt bogey.
Great drive on 12, 30 yards past the other two while playing further back tees. Approach ended just right of green in rough. Chip was a bit short of the green because it did not release as expected. Consequently, needed a second chip, then 2-putted for double. That one hurt.
Nearly saved par on 13th after approach landed in the large left greenside bunker. Putt came up an inch short. Bogey.
The most annoying holethough, was the 14th after hitting the farthest drive of the three while playing the back tees. Only had a short wedge in, but nearly shanked it into the right greenside bunker. It wasn't a full shank, but I felt a touch of hosel and watched the ball fade 5 yards right. (That just doesn't normally happen without a little hosel help using a SW.) The worst was yet to come, though. The bunker where my ball came to rest had virtually NO sand under it. My 12* bounce was too much for the firm condition and I blew it 20 yards over the green up onto the high slope to the left. Flopped back on, but 2-putted for another double.
3-putt on 17th for another 3-putt bogey.
Those were the shots that hurt. There were plenty of good ones too, so no major complaints.
